Common questions
Is my video uploaded?
No. Your browser compresses it with your device’s own video encoder. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Will it really fit the size I pick?
Yes when it is possible. The tool tests your video first, then compresses and checks the result. If a video is too long for the size, it tells you the smallest size that would work.
What happens to quality and sound?
Sound is kept. The picture is made smaller when that looks better than squeezing it at full size. The output is H.264 and AAC in an MP4, which plays almost everywhere.
How big a video can I compress?
That depends on your device: the limit is shown above the drop zone. Very large files, or batches, are a better fit for the WhyUpload desktop app when it is ready.
Which browsers and formats work?
Current Chrome, Edge and Safari, with MP4, MOV and M4V files. A browser cannot compress video without video encoding support, and MKV, AVI and WebM files are not supported here yet.
